The ancient elm is a long-lived, strong , brightly coloured plant and offers a wood that can withstand pressure well, medium-hard. This strength is balanced by a rich weave of grains reminiscent of oak, even brighter. The sapwood of this wood is light in colour, in sharp contrast to the dark brown, reddish, sometimes purplish heartwood. The very fine medullary rays of old elm give the radial surfaces of the parquet a certain impressive light.
